
James Boorstein
SENIOR ADVISOR
James Boorstein holds a BA from Colgate University, attended the San Francisco Art Institute, and did graduate work in Architectural Preservation at Columbia University.
After several years working as a “master restorer” at the Metropolitan Museum, in 1984 he co-founded Traditional Line Ltd., an architectural conservation and contracting company. He ran the company for more than 25 years, managing projects that spanned many years with budgets up to 15 million dollars. He remains involved in Traditional Line, and has completed projects in major US museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Getty Museum.
Boorstein has lectured across the country about architectural conservation and historic interiors (Seattle, Texas, Colorado, Washington, Philadelphia, New York). He has also written extensively with published essays and book chapters in numerous venues from trade and design publications to literary and arts journals.
Boorstein has been the head of Toko Kyudojo, a nonprofit school for Japanese Archery, since 1994. He also led the board of Zenko International for several years.
James is the son of Jane Boorstein, the Founder of LOWO, and has therefore been aware of LOWO’s activities since the beginning.
